As a facilitator, my vision is to provide a
sanctuary for you to write and tell the stories of your life. In doing
so, you create the unique spiritual legacy that is yours alone to
give. For over a decade, I have had a deep passion for the healing
power of story and its capacity to awaken one’s creativity and
assist in the discovery of one’s purpose. By listening to my
own life story through self-revelatory writing I have developed a
profound trust in this creative process. As a nationally certified
facilitator with Women’s Legacies and through training with
the Amherst Writers and Artists methodology, I have blended the two
and facilitate a gentle process that provides the support for you
to document your stories, celebrate your wisdom, and provide blessings
for loved ones and future generations. You have the opportunity, through
your own words, to express how you want to be remembered.
Together
we create a community where the richness of people’s lives is
celebrated. In this intimate setting your writing experience will
be guided through gentle questions and prompts. We will co-create
a safe and sacred space for you to speak from your heart and to give
voice to writing that is full of surprise and mystery. You will be
amazed at your writing! You will have the opportunity to share your
writing if you so choose, and to receive supportive, non-judgmental
feedback. We will listen intently to ourselves and to each other.
Trust the process and join a Voice Flame Writers Circle!
Voice Flame Writers offers workshops, classes,
retreats and presentations for individuals, groups, families, organizations
and communities. My services are available as an adjunct to services
already provided in shelters, mental health agencies, educational
settings, support groups, health-care settings and wellness centers.
The exercises that are chosen can lead us to write stories about relationships,
loss, divorce, illness, celebrations, family, sensuality, recovery,
personal power, gratitude, ancestors and much, much more! Depending
on your needs and time constraints the time we spend together can
be a half-hour, all-day or an extended retreat. I can design and facilitate
a program that will meet your needs.

Imagine you have given yourself the gift
of time you deserve.
You are sitting among a circle of diverse
individuals who have gathered together to nurture their mind, body,
and souls through writing.
Lovingly placed in the center of the
circle is a brightly colored tapestry adorned by a bouquet of fiery
orange flowers.
A candle is lit to symbolize the safety
of the container in which you are invited to invoke your story,
voice, and legacy.
You take a deep breath and the outside
world slowly dissolves away. You sip your hot tea and commit to
trusting the process.
You have a pen in hand and a blank white
page before you. You are ready to begin the journey!
Workshops
can be three hours or a full day depending on the needs of the group.
We will enter into the mystery of the day, some with eager anticipation
and others with fear or anxiety. As we gather to nurture our body,
mind and soul, the sounds of old and new friends begin to fill the
air. We introduce ourselves by sharing something extraordinary about
our current lives or perhaps speaking our hopes, fears and dreams
for the day. We claim ourselves as writers! Before the day is over
we will all benefit from each other and recognize the universal feelings
contained within the group. These workshops are often designed for
women only.
Retreats involve an overnight
stay and can be anywhere from two days to one week. A retreat allows
for a deeper journey into your inner self and brings you back into
the world with a broader perspective of who you are. It includes additional
methods of self-expression, such as collage making, movement, photography
and nature-based activities. A Writing, Interplay and African Dance
Retreat is held yearly on the Hawaiian Islands. Join myself and Masankho
Banda on October 24-28, 2007 on Maui for this exciting adventure.
Classes are practical and
students experience and apply the skills of presence, empathy, self-expression
and deep listening in personal transformation. Current classes in
the School of Holistic Studies at John F. Kennedy University are:
* Writing As Soulwork, Summer Quarter 2007
* Writing Your Story: Revelations of the Heart, Winter Quarter 2008
Individual Consultations:
Private sessions are available for those more comfortable with an
individual setting.
Collaborations: Look for
special events in collaboration with other compatable facilitators.
For example, the annual Writing, Interplay and African Dance Retreat
held in Hawaii.
