Win a trip to Malawi

To Enter: Write an essay (typed and double-spaced) of 750 words or less about a connection that you have had with a woman or a group of women that changed your life. The context may be professional, cross-cultural, familial or other.
- Include a personal story that embodies the transformation you experienced from that connection.
- Describe the gifts and blessings you received from this experience.
- Convey how you would like to use this experience to build connections with women in Malawi.
- Be creative and have fun!
Judging:
Essays will be judged on both style and content. We will look for writing that is creative, articulate, thoughtfully organized, and spiritually meaningful. Our judges include:

Sharon Bray, author of When Words Heal and A Healing Journey and co-editor of Learning to Live Again
Evangeline Canonizado Buell, author Twenty-Five Chickens and a Pig for a Bride and one of four editors for Filipinos in the East Bay
Grand Prize: Win a trip to Malawi August 3-19, 2009 with Mary Tuchscherer, JFK University Adjunct Professor and founder of Voice Flame Writers, and Malawi native Masankho Banda and a group of eight women from across the U.S. to collect and preserve the stories, gifts and blessings of Malawian women. - $5,000 value

- Three months (9 sessions) of writing coaching with certified Master Coach, Linda Bark, PHD - $1200 value
- A day long writing retreat with Mary Tuchscherer, MA for the winner of the third prize and up to seven of her friends and/or family - $1000 value

Eligibility: This contest is open to all female students, staff and alumnae of John F. Kennedy University. A $20 entrance fee must accompany your essay. All proceeds will go towards educational scholarships for women in Malawi. Please make checks payable to John F. Kennedy University. This is a tax deductible contribution.
Contest Rules:
- All Connecting Women: Women Finding Their Voice essays must be received no later than January 15, 2009. (See below for details on submitting essays.)
- Winners and all other essay contest participants will be notified via e-mail and/or by mail during the first week of February 2009.
- Essay Contest winners will be invited to attend an awards ceremony (location TBA) on February 19, 2009.
- All entries become the property of John F. Kennedy University, School of Holistic Studies and Voice Flame Writers. A release form must be signed and returned in order to qualify for a prize.
- Decisions of the judges are final.

- Send a cover sheet stapled to the back of your essay that includes the following:

- Essays can be submitted either via email or mail.
- Via email. Email the file as an attachment to jfku.connectingwomen@gmail.com by 11:59 pm on January 15, 2009. The file should be a Word or pdf document.
